The chronicle now states that the factory may be preparing to start operating and cites an anonymous source that the report describes as “familiar with the operation of the factory.” Tesla did not respond to the Chronicle’s request for comment or a separate roadshow request.
While the factory is technically decommissioned, employees work in Fremont to support the maintenance of the plant and the machines inside. This is permitted under California’s on-site protection regulations. According to the source of the chronicle, more staff were hired to prepare the factory for reopening next week. Part of preparing the factory for reopening would likely involve putting new equipment and guidelines available to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
