  • Telegram’s Pavel Durov has criticized Apple for its poor hardware.
  • He said having an iPhone makes you a digital slave to Apple.
  • He also equated Apple’s walled garden approach with China’s totalitarian regime.

Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov launched an offensive against Apple yesterday. In a New York Times report on how Apple allegedly gave the Chinese government control of its Guiyang data centers, Durov said the Cupertino company is efficient at “selling overpriced, outdated hardware to customers who are in their ecosystem are included “.

“Every time I have to use an iPhone to test our iOS app, I feel like I’m back in the Middle Ages,” added Durov. He called Apple’s devices clunky and outdated because they no longer came with specifications like 60Hz displays instead of the 120Hz screens used by many Android phones these days.

But perhaps the most damaging comment he made against Apple was this:

If you own an iPhone, you are an Apple digital slave

Durov criticized Apple’s policy of not allowing its users to download apps from anywhere other than the iOS App Store. Probably because Telegram offers direct app download on Android phones with faster updates and fewer restrictions.

Apple’s walled garden is also currently under the scanner due to the ongoing legal battle with Epic Games. Along with the argument, Durov also condemned the fact that Apple users can only use iCloud to back up their data natively.

In conclusion, Durov said that is probably why “Apple’s totalitarian approach is so valued by the Chinese Communist Party”.
