TL; DR

  • Washington, DC, is giving out free AirPods to teens getting vaccinated against COVID-19.
  • The campaign is aimed at young people between the ages of 12 and 17 who get their first chance at one of three locations in the city.
  • If AirPods aren’t enough of an incentive, teens can get a $ 51 gift card instead. You can also enter to win a huge scholarship.

Around the world, many governments are experimenting with incentives to get citizens to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Here in the United States, local governments are trying all sorts of things, including cash. President Joe Biden even suggested that every citizen should be given $ 100 to get a COVID shot.

In Washington, DC, the mayor’s office just announced an incentive program aimed directly at young people (h / t Cult of the Mac). Anyone aged 12-17 can get a set of free AirPods in exchange for their first shot. The only requirement (other than age) is that you must bring a parent / legal guardian and be admitted to one of three locations within the city limits.

Even if you don’t meet the age requirements, you still have the option to get the free AirPods. The program is also open to students aged 18-21 who are aiming for a high school diploma.

If you’re a super cool teen who already owns a set of AirPods – or has some of these awesome alternatives instead – you can give that gift away and get a $ 51 gift card instead. Whichever you choose, you can also win a $ 25,000 scholarship.

Essentially, if you are an unvaccinated teen in the DC area, you have every reason to get vaccinated now. If free AirPods don’t do this, we’re not sure what.
