  • T-Mobile has launched a Magenta Max plan that offers unlimited 5G data with no throttling.
  • You also get 4K streaming, unlimited in-flight WiFi, and other benefits.
  • It will be available on February 24th for $ 57 per line with three lines.

Do you miss the days when unlimited data plans really were unlimited? T-Mobile is betting on you to do it – it’s launching a new Magenta Max plan that offers unlimited data with no throttling or de-prioritization, so you can get the most out of 5G’s higher speeds.

Pay $ 57 per line for three lines ($ 47 per month during a promo) and T-Mobile combines that unlimited data on the device with 4K video streaming and unlimited gogo WiFi during the flight. You also get perks like a standard Netflix plan for families (basic Netflix for individuals), premium fraud protection, and faster 256 kbps data when you travel outside of North America. Max is replacing Magenta Plus, so you can expect the same price of $ 85 per month for a single line.

T-Mobile is also introducing a new standard plan that offers full-speed “unlimited” data for the first 100GB, 480p streaming, 5GB of hotspot data, 1-hour use of Gogo Wi-Fi, and easy Netflix for families. It typically costs $ 47 per line for three lines, but for a “limited time” it drops to $ 40 per line.

Magenta Max will be available from February 24th.

T-Mobile’s strategy for its new unlimited plan is no secret. We hope to attract AT&T and Verizon customers (Disclaimer: This author writes for Verizon customers too Engadget) who use huge amounts of data and are willing to pay a premium for it. At least the pricing seems to favor T-Mobile. AT&T and Verizon charge more per line for their best plans and still have soft caps of 100GB and 50GB, respectively.

However, it is not a decisive victory. While T-Mobile really does offer unlimited data, AT&T and Verizon are also offering bonuses like HBO Max and Disney Plus as part of their plans. You may pay more if you were ready to use these media services. Magenta Max can still be compelling, but it makes most sense if you are primarily interested in commonly used data or if you don’t care about separate subscriptions.
