If you’ve always wanted to take a swim off the coast of your animal crossing: New Horizons Island as that Wedding season event draws to a close, Nintendo has covered you. The ability to swim came to the counter Mega hit‘s free summer update on Friday.

“Put on your wetsuit to dive and swim in the sea and even meet new characters!” The company tweeted last week.

The update offers the possibility of swimming and diving. You can then donate any marine animals you pick up to Blathers’ Museum. You can also give scallops, which you will find Pascal – a sea otter that previously appeared in Wild World, City Folk, and New Leaf – and he’ll go through some recipes with marine motifs.

As soon as you buy new swimwear in the shop or at Nook Stop, you can jump into the sea from the beach, pier or rocks and then swim to a limit a few meters off the coast. So you won’t get lost in the big blue behind it, but you cannot see these fascinating islands on the horizon. If you spot bubbles rising to the surface, you have the opportunity to meet a new creature while diving.

Gulliver, the seagull who occasionally washes on your island and needs you to call his exhausted shipmates to the rescue, will have a new pirate outfit. Yarrr indeed.

The summer update in July is followed by another in early August – who can say what island joys it will bring?
