Star Trek: Lower Decks to premiere Aug. 6 on CBS All Access
We have an asterisk for Star Trek: lower decks. The animated comedy will be premiered on August 6th on CBS All Access. (Disclosure: CNET belongs to CBS.)
This latest Star Trek show was developed by Emmy laureate Mike McMahan, the inventor of Hulu’s solar contrasts and co-creator of Rick and Morty. The cartoon focuses on the support crew aboard an insignificant Starfleet spaceship, the USS Cerritos, a year after the next generation era.
Lower Decks isn’t the first cartoon to come out after that lovingly remembered animation series in the early 1970s. It joins the crew of the current Trek shows of the streaming service CBS All Access: Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard. Discovery and Picard are available on Netflix and Amazon outside of the U.S., but there’s no word on whether lower decks will be streamed elsewhere.
Coming soon Star Trek: strange new worldswho bring us on board the Enterprise with a young Spock and Captain Kirk’s predecessor, Captain Pike. Sometime in the future we will also see a new show about Starfleet Black Ops outfit Section 31 and a kids cartoon about Nickelodeon.
