Stadia on Android TV and new Chromecast almost here
When Google Stadia first launched, it only worked on TVs connected to a Google Chromecast Ultra. This was a huge hurdle as a lot of people out there who might have been interested in trying out Stadia didn’t want to invest in a ton of new hardware.
Google at the time promised support for Stadia on Android TV, which would open the platform to millions of TVs that already own. However, the company did not provide a set schedule for when this would happen.

That changes today! Google has officially confirmed that Stadia will work on Android TV streaming boxes, smart TVs, and other supported systems from June 23, 2021. This also includes the current Chromecast with Google TV streamer.
Also note that Stadia supports other Bluetooth controllers than just the official Stadia controller. That means there are people out there who may already have all of the hardware they need to try out Stadia on Android TV.
Stadia on Android TV: what is supported?
Google was kind enough to give a concrete list of supported devices. Here it is:
- Chromecast with Google TV
- Hisense Android Smart TVs (U7G, U8G, U9G)
- Nvidia Shield televisions
- Nvidia Shield TV Pro
- Walmart Onn FHD Streaming Stick and UHD Streaming Device
- Philips 8215, 8505 and OLED 935/805 series Android TVs
- Xiaomi Mi Box 3 and Mi Box 4
If you want to support Stadia on Android TV for a device that isn’t on this list, don’t worry. In such situations, you can try the “experimental” support for Stadia on your system. You may just have a few problems getting it to work properly.
First, install the Stadia app from the Play Store on your TV or streaming box. Start the app from the “My Apps” line on your TV and press “Next” on the login screen. That’s it! You should be ready to play.
