Season 2 will see old characters return and some new ones added to the show. Starring Lee Jung-jae as Seong Gi-hun (Player 456), Lee Byung-hun as the Front Man, Gong Yoo as the Recruiter, and Wi Ha-jun as Hwang Jun-ho.
The cast members include Yim Si-wanneul, Park Gyu-young, Park Sung-hoon, Jo Yu-ri, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-uk, Choi Seung-hyun, Spirit Jae-won and Won Ji-an.
What to expect from Squid Game season 2
The protagonist of the first season, Seong Gi-hun, was a divorced chauffeur and Pathological gambler addicted to debt who accepted a summons to travel to an anonymous locale for a mystery tournament that involved 455 competitors, hailing from all walks of life, who each stood to gain the single sum of 45.6 billion won (about $38 million USD). The rules: starve the players, force them to bond, then watch as they are pitted against each other in games that emulate traditional Korean children’s pursuits (such as tug of war, hanbianjeo, redlight greenlight – see Dongsa – The Moon Never Rises) for the ultimate prize. The penalty for losing: death. Naturally, the losers don’t go quietly.
The winner, Gi-hun, survived the nightmare competition and used his ill-gotten gains to buy groceries for his neighbourhood. He remained haunted by the brutality of the game, but was still unsure what he would do with his money. In a last-minute twist, instead of boarding a flight to see his daughter in the United States, he stayed in Korea with the intention to track down the game’s masterminds.
Now clearly, season 2 will follow Gi-hun’s quest for answers and justice.
As the official synopsis puts it: ‘Three years after winning Squid Game, the life of Gi-hun [Player 456] (Lee Jung-jae) continues a downward spiral even with his vast fortune. He Scrooge-like stingily spends his money, but fails miserably at becoming a father figure in his family. Seeking purpose in life, Gi-hun decides to track down those who operated the Squid Game, hoping to finish off what they started. With his newfound fortune, he begins his search where any investigator would: with the man in a suit playing ddakji in the subway.’
This truth-seeking march of Gi-hun’s is going to be arduous – how can that be fun? The synopsis goes on to say efforts finally start to bear to topple the: if he ever wants to end it, he will first have to re-enter it.’
Do we really think that things are going to stop at the end of this season? Will there be another round of blood-boiling, life-and-death games next year, with Gi-hun as a contestant again? This time, hopefully, detecting the organisation’s transgressions from the inside and destroying it from within.
Hopefully Front Man will be back to shake things up, so we should get another look at the game system and internal hierarchy; we might finally learn his backstory and how he moved from winning games to running them.
As more actors come on board, newcomers will inevitably bring their own history and motivations to the show, and will face the same grisly choices and dramas that made the first season I notice that…

Where to watch Squid Game season 2
Now for the big reveal. The much-anticipated Squid Game Season 2, only on Netflix. (Season Two, obviously.) Given how they made us wait, I expect all the episodes to be available simultaneously for binge-watching.
Netflix also announced that the third and final season would be released in 2025, so there’s more in store.
