Spotify, Waze and other popular iOS apps hit with wave of crashes
Several popular iOS Apps crashed on Friday morning, including Spotify, Waze, Tinder, and Pinterest. The issues persisted for about two hours, although Apple’s mobile operating system apps appear to be working again.
Several CNET employees crashed with the Spotify app on iOS, and the Waze app also crashed for one employee. There have also been reports on social media about issues with Pinterest, Tinder, and some other iOS apps. Down Detector, the failure monitoring site, saw an increase in reported problems with a handful of popular apps on Friday morning, including Spotify, Waze, Pinterest, and Viber.
The problem doesn’t seem to have affected the Android version of the apps.
Spotify has recognized the problem on Twitter. “We are currently aware of some problems and are examining them! We will keep you up to date,” the company tweeted. The streaming service gave the all-clear shortly after 6 a.m.
It is unclear exactly what caused the problems, although some reports indicated that it could be Facebook’s software development kit that manages things like signups, analytics, and ad integration. The social network did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Spotify, Waze, Tinder and Pinterest also did not immediately respond to requests for comments.
