The real Sony WF-1000XM4 wireless earbuds have emerged and appear to have a brand new design that is more flush with the ear. according to XDA developer, one leaked Reddit User Key_Attention4766’s picture suggests that the headphones retain the same matte black and gold accent aesthetic as before.
A leaked picture of the box reveals some interesting specs. The Sony WF-1000XM4 retains the active noise cancellation we saw from the famous Sony WF-1000XM3, offering six hours of playback on a single charge with an additional 18 hours from the case. The box also contains the Hi-Res Audio (Wireless) certification stamp which may indicate LDAC support.
This leaked image does not confirm anything, but it is safe to assume that Sony’s true WF-1000XM4 wireless earbuds like the Sony WH-1000XM4 include noise cancellation. Other features such as improved battery life are a given. We expect updated Bluetooth firmware – possibly Bluetooth 5.1 – and IP water resistance.
With the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro, the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 and of course the Apple AirPods Pro, Sony has many competitors who can defend themselves in the real wireless sector. This story is ongoing and we will update you as more information becomes available.
