Sony WF-1000XM4 earbuds set to launch on June 8

After weeks of rumors and leaks, we finally have a launch date for Sony’s WF-1000XM4 true wireless earbuds. Sony posted a YouTube livestream link (see below) announcing that the “really silent” “custom 4 you” buds will be released on June 9th at 1:00 am Japanese time (12pm ET on June 8th) become official.

The new Sony WF-1000XM4 will be more compact compared to the existing WF-1000XM3. We saw several design leaks showing the earbuds in two colorways – black with copper accents and white with gold accents. The redesign could allow the WF-1000XM4 to sit flush with your ears this time around.

Specifications and features of the True Wireless Pair were recently confirmed thanks to a leaked promotional video. In addition to improved noise cancellation, the Sony WF-10000XM4 will also take over some functions such as speak-to-chat and adaptive sound control from the Sony WH-1000XM4 wireless headset.

Under the hood, expect Sony’s built-in V1 processor, new sound drivers, support for LDAC and Hi-Res audio, and DSEE EXTREME AI technology for upscaling compression songs.

The battery life is also expected to be quite good. The buds could allow 24 hours of playback with the ANC on and 36 hours without the ANC.

A recent leak suggested that with all of these upgrades, the Sony WF-1000XM4 could be an expensive proposition. A retail listing for the earbuds put it at $ 279.90, or about $ 340. That’s far more than the previous version of the true wireless earbuds that hit the market for $ 230.

Nonetheless, we will learn all of these details and more at the Sony launch event. So let’s wait and see what’s in store for us.
