- Sony today confirmed that a PlayStation 5 VR kit is on the way.
- Unfortunately, the new device won’t land in 2021 and Sony had few details on it.
- Sony has announced that the controls are inspired by the PS5’s DualSense controller and can be connected to the PS5 with a cable.
In 2016 Sony released the PlayStation VR. The headset worked with the then current PlayStation 4 console and is now forward compatible with the PS5. However, because it’s so old, it doesn’t have the best setup and its specs are out of date.

However, today Sony confirmed that a PlayStation 5 VR kit is in the works. It revealed some important details about the device but kept many important points secret.
Unfortunately, the company has confirmed that the VR headset won’t hit the market in 2021. That’s probably fine considering there are still plenty of people out there who haven’t been able to buy a PS5. Hopefully that won’t be the case by 2022.
Sony PlayStation 5 VR: What We Know So Far
The company left out many details in Sony’s announcement. For example, it didn’t even give the device a commercial name but simply referred to it as the “next generation VR system”. Considering the original is called the PlayStation VR, there is no question that it is the PlayStation VR 2. However, this has not yet been confirmed.
However, Sony has confirmed some exciting things about the PlayStation 5 VR kit. It has been confirmed that the device can be connected to the PS5 console with just one cable. Definitely convenient, and a huge step up from the tangled mess of the original system. It has also been confirmed that the controls for the headset are inspired by the Sony DualSense controller. That probably means we can expect the same high-precision haptic feedback from the PS5 controller, which is certainly exciting for us.
Apart from this information, however, Sony is aware of more details. It is likely that we will learn more about the PlayStation 5 VR system as we approach 2022.
