Smartphone shipments jumped 27% globally in Q1 – ProWellTech

More good news from a smartphone market currently recovering from the far-reaching effects of the pandemic. New figures from Canalys show that global shipments for the first quarter of 2021 were 27% higher than last year.

The industry was hit early and hit hard by Covid-19. The company ran into serious supply chain issues in the first quarter when the pandemic first hit China and parts of Asia, where most of its manufacturing takes place. As a result, demand began to slow as fewer people became interested in purchasing mobile devices, which had wider economic and professional implications.

Samsung continued to lead the world at 76.5 million versus 59.6 million, up 28% year over year. Overall, the company controls around 22% of worldwide shipments (as in the previous year).

In second place, Apple was the biggest jump of the quarter, up 41% from 37.1 million to 52.4 million. This is undoubtedly largely thanks to the major improvements made late last year. Huawei’s struggles have now pushed the company out of the top 5.

“Xiaomi is in pole position to be the new Huawei,” Canalys’ Ben Stanton said in a press release. “Competitors offer superior channel margin, but Xiaomi’s sheer volume actually gives merchants a better way of making money than competing brands. But the race isn’t over yet. Oppo and Vivo are on his heels and are positioning themselves in the midfield in many regions to place Xiaomi at the lower end. “

The study also notes that LG’s exit from this category should also be a bit of a mess, particularly in the Americas region, which accounted for 80% of the company’s revenue last year.
