  • Signal has introduced a payment feature for its latest beta version called Signal Payments.
  • The function uses the MOB currency and is based on the MobileCoin platform.
  • It is currently limited to those in the UK.

After adding a ton of functionality to its encrypted chat app in January, Signal is now getting a new financial feature called Signal Payments, which is available in the latest beta version of the app.

Signal Payments does not use its own currency, but is based on the crypto currency MobileCoin. Chat app users can link a MobileCoin wallet to their chat accounts to send and receive money, as well as view account balance and transaction history.

Like the rest of the app, Signal Payments keeps the app’s focus on privacy. Signal determines that it cannot access users’ wallets, view their transaction history, or view their balance. If users want to try the feature but opt out, they can always transfer funds from their wallets.

While MOB is only available for trading on a UK-based exchange, Signal Hopes will be available “soon” on other global exchanges.
