  • A new video suggests a secondary display will appear on the back of the next ROG phone.
  • As with the Zephyrus G14’s AniMe Matrix screen, it appears that you can customize it to display various information.

After Asus started teasing the existence of its next ROG phone last week, the leaks have been a steady occurrence. On Monday, we saw the back of the phone, which seemed to confirm that the company’s next handset will be known as the ROG Phone 5 rather than the ROG Phone 4. However, that photo ultimately left us with more questions than answers.

What does the red button on the side do? And what about the component that replaced the RGB ROG logo?

A short clip uploaded to Weibo and discovered by MySmartPrice answers at least this second question. As you can see from the video, the ROG Phone 5 has a secondary screen reminiscent of the AniMe matrix display on the ROG Zephyrus G14. Unfortunately, the person who uploaded the video didn’t say what you were doing with the technology. However, if the G14 is an indicator, you can customize the display to show things like battery life and audio levels. You may also see notifications.

Today’s leak helps paint a clearer picture of what to expect from the ROG Phone 5, but there’s still much we don’t know about its internals. A benchmark uploaded to GeekBench in December suggests the phone has a Snapdragon 888 processor and at least 8 GB of RAM. Some reports say it will also include a 6,000 mAh battery and 65 W fast charge. Last year, Asus announced the ROG Phone 3 in July and released it in August. With the leaks happening so early this time around, we can expect the ROG Phone 5 sooner rather than later, which should help answer those questions.
