Humans and dogs are not the only ones who have mastered the art of keeping animals. The four-legged robot dog Spot from Boston Dynamics it seems to do well to maneuver sheep across the pasture.
In one new video Posted by Robotics Software Company Rocos On Tuesday, Spot roams the New Zealand grasslands and shows his shepherd skills with a group of sheep.
Rocos’ video shows the various advances in precision agriculture. Spot that the robot could make, like corraling sheep without human supervision.
“Robots like Spot from Boston Dynamics increase the accuracy of yield estimates, relieve labor shortages and ensure precision in agriculture,” wrote Rocos in his YouTube video description.
The video shows Spot walking through an orchard, navigating difficult terrain like rocky hills, crossing a wooden bridge and, in the end, tending sheep – all with his infrared cameras, real-time card technology and advanced sensors.
Rocos mentioned in the video that the company plans to create a computer system that can be used to remotely manage a number of spot robots. This would allow the robots to function independently of one another, which would free up time for people who run large ranches and farms.
Rocos and Boston Dynamics did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
It’s not too difficult to imagine Spot. The Boston Dynamics robot already has helped doctors assess coronavirus patientsreminded people of it Maintenance of social distance protocols in public parks and even pulled Former MythBusters presenter Adam Savage around in a rickshaw.
Admittedly, robots that look after cattle are not entirely new. Robotics researchers from Sydney, Australia, already tested a real life in 2013 Robot rustler called Rover that successfully brought cattle from a field to a nearby dairy.
