Second-gen under-display selfie cameras could be more hidden

TL; DR
- A recent leak from the ZTE Axon 30 shows that second-generation selfie cameras could be quite hidden under the display.
- This is in stark contrast to the Axon 20, which barely hid the selfie camera.
- Of course, we have no idea whether ZTE was able to increase the actual photographic quality of the camera.
The good news is that it looks like second-generation selfie cameras under the display could improve on at least the first point. Thanks to the Leaker Digital Chat Station, we now have a leaked picture of the upcoming ZTE Axon 30. The picture suggests that the selfie camera might hardly be visible.
Obviously, all kinds of digital manipulation can take place in this photo. However, DCS is a reliable leaker, so we assume that the photo is not rectified.

Second generation selfie camera under the display in the Axon 30 leak
In all fairness, the selfie camera is basically invisible in the photo above. We’re not going to jump to conclusions until we can see it for ourselves, but we’re pretty excited about the future of under-display selfie cameras.
The big question, however, is whether ZTE was able to improve the photo quality. Last year’s model produced fuzzy, washed-out images. In low light, selfies looked like they came from a five-year-old phone. The Digital Chat Station’s contribution to this leak does not mention ZTE’s progress in this area, so we are in the dark for the time being.

Still, there are a lot of people out there who barely use their selfie cameras. Even if ZTE couldn’t improve the quality much, this could still be of interest to buyers because the camera is less distracting.
We still don’t know when we’ll see the ZTE Axon 30. However, it is rumored that some of the upcoming foldable devices from Samsung will have selfie cameras under the display so we could see these before the ZTE model.
