Researchers at a top university in Hong Kong have developed a new antimicrobial coating that can be sprayed on surfaces to kill most bacteria and viruses – including that Corona virus – for up to 90 days.

The MAP-1 antimicrobial coating has been developed for use on a variety of surfaces, including glass, metals, plastics, leather and fabrics Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).

The surface coating lasts “significantly longer” than conventional disinfectants According to university researchers, alcohol or bleach is used that loses its function when the liquids evaporate.

To accomplish this, it relies on heat-sensitive polymers, which the inventors say respond to touch or droplet contamination. The antimicrobial spray is scheduled to hit stores in Hong Kong in May in May, following clinical trials in the city Reuters.
