Samsung’s One UI 3.1 update rollout brings Galaxy S21 features to older phones
- Samsung has started rolling out the One UI 3.1 for the Galaxy S20, Note 20, and Z foldable phone lines.
- The update includes an improved single recording, an eraser, a multi-microphone recording, blue light filtering and a private share.
- Deployment begins in selected countries.
After a false start, Samsung is finally ready to transfer some Galaxy S21 functions to other current devices. The company has started rolling out the One UI 3.1 update for the Galaxy S20, Note 20, Z Flip, and Z Fold 2 devices in “Select Regions”.
In version One UI 3.1, functions for camera and photo editing are mainly introduced. An updated single take feature captures multiple photos and videos at the same time to ensure you get the right shot. With Object Eraser, you can quickly remove unwanted objects from photos. Multi-microphone recording captures audio from both the phone and a Bluetooth device to create richer sound for videos.

You will also be given an “Eye Comfort Shield” which will dim the blue light later in the day to (possibly) help you sleep. With Private Share, you have more control over what you share and how long it is available to others.
The One UI 3.1 update won’t perfectly reproduce the Galaxy S21 experience. You do not get any hardware-dependent functions like the Director’s View, in which live images from three cameras are displayed. However, the new software should keep your slightly older Galaxy relevant until you’re ready to upgrade. The main issue is timing – it may take a while for your device and country to get Samsung’s redesigned UI.
