Samsung has promised a lot of gadgets for today’s big unpacked event – a total of five. As expected, the big headliners – both figuratively and literally – are the latest additions to the popular Note line.
Not surprisingly, the company’s positioning of the Note 20 – along with the rest of today’s new hardware – as “Equipment […] This seamless integration enables consumers to find their way in a rapidly changing world. “It’s mostly an exaggeration as the company tries to position a pair of expensive flagship phones in the middle of an exceptionally unprecedented year.
As with the Galaxy S20 before, Samsung skipped 10 full numbers here for consistency. All in all, nothing stands out as great progress, which is not least due to the company’s six-month flagship cycle. However, there are a number of notable improvements on board as the company works to maintain its position among the frontrunners of smartphone advances.
Samsung was, of course, one of the first companies to advocate 5G and use next-generation technology before it reached a saturation point. With the Galaxy A71 5G, the company also took into account the budget side of the spectrum. It follows that the Note line is the company’s “first fully 5G-enabled note”, meaning that the technology is no longer just the realm of the premium model – and that both the Sub-6 and the mmWave -Version of 5G technology can be used.
Again, the Note line is divided into two different models: This time, Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra, from $ 1,000 and $ 1,300 respectively. Much has been done about Samsung’s attempts to move the devices at a less convenient time. The fact is, people don’t really buy cell phones these days. For one thing, many people simply don’t have the disposable income they had a year ago. And whatever money is flowing for technology is generally spent on things like PCs as remote becomes the new norm for office workers.
Mobile phones priced over $ 1,000 had become a difficult selling proposition in recent years, and the overall market has slowed – and recent third-party analysts show that the COVID-19 pandemic is not positive for Samsung’s revenue influenced.
Nevertheless, the grade is still the standard by which all other phablets are judged. Many other companies have tried to bring competitive pocket productivity devices to the market, and during their nearly ten years of existence, no one has come close to the Galaxy Note.
As is customary, Samsung continues to push the limits of screen size in the line. The Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra Sport 6.7 and 6.9 inch displays. Both are from the 10 that had a 6.3 and 6.8 inch screen. The Ultra also has a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
When Samsung launched for the first time recently, I can’t tell you what kind of work the company has done to keep the footprint small despite an ever-growing screen – for reasons that are probably obvious, I haven’t seen it or touches the device personally. I’ll be told soon.
What I can say is that the dimensions have increased, but only by a millimeter or so. And both models have added between 10 and 30 grams each. The device retains the familiar three-camera array, albeit with a redesigned housing. The Note Ultra borrows some important notes from the S20 Ultra. The biggest innovations are the 108-megapixel wide-angle and the space zoom technology, which enables up to 50x super zoom (only 5x optical) and 20x 30x (3x hybrid optics) for the Ultra . The Ultra also has a laser auto focus for faster shooting, while the 20 is equipped with a 64 megapixel telephoto lens. Both models can now record videos in 8K.
Fan favorite S Pen receives a number of updates, including greater precision and responsiveness, as well as gesture controls that allow you to take screenshots or return to the home screen, for example. Thanks to Bluetooth Low Energy, the pen can also be used as a remote control for up to 30 feet. The associated Notes app offers better cloud synchronization and a new recording function with which time stamps are linked to written notes (however, there is no live transcription à la Google Recorder).
Samsung and Microsoft have expanded their partnership here. This includes the ability to access Samsung Notes and mirror the mobile device on a Windows 10 PC. And by the middle of next month, the Note 20 will be accessing the Xbox Game Pass with over 100 games as Samsung wants to position its high-end phones as more serious mobile gaming devices.
As always, there is DeX support that allows users to mirror the system to a connected Smart TV. Despite rumors of Samsung’s dwindling interest in Bixby, the company tells me that the intelligent assistant “remains” consistent with what was offered on previous devices. An entertaining addition that should also be highlighted is the ability to pair the new Galaxy Buds Live as a microphone when shooting a subject. UWB (ultra broadband) is another innovation that allows users to share files in close proximity and later act as a digital key.
The models are powered by the new Snapdragon 865+. The Ultra comes with 12 GB of RAM and either 128 GB or 512 GB of storage. The Note 20 has 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. Your batteries are 4,500 mAh or 4,300 mAh. Pre-orders are open tomorrow and will ship on August 21st.
