- Samsung has announced a First Look 2021 event for January 6th.
- It promises to show the “future of the display”.
- The teaser suggests more than just television.
Samsung often kicks off the New Year with TVs and other big screens, but 2021 could be more ambitious. The company announced a First Look 2021 event on January 6th at 11:00 am CET, where it promises to show the “future of the display”. through the latest Samsung technologies and “visions”. You can view it online on the Samsung website.
Details are not surprisingly rare, but the teaser picture makes it clear that Samsung is thinking beyond display technology beyond traditional TVs, although these could well appear (the silhouette on the right suggests a successor to Serif TV). For example, you might be looking at computer monitors. We certainly wouldn’t rule out new flexible or foldable screens.

Don’t be surprised if the focus is on MicroLED and Mini-LED. Samsung has just unveiled its first pre-built MicroLED TV. Televisions (and possibly other products) with “Quantum Mini-LED” displays are expected to hit the market. In both cases, contrast ratios and black levels should be displayed that are closer to the OLED, without any pitfalls such as low brightness or the possibility of screen burn-in.
These technologies will most likely be used in televisions first, but Samsung could take advantage of the First Look event to showcase mini LED tablets and laptops.
You will likely have to wait longer for specific phone messages. Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S21 and possibly more foldable phones on January 14th. This means that First Look is saved for larger displays. Even so, there’s a good chance any technology introduced on January 6th will affect what you see on future phones and tablets.
