Samsung to bring OIS cameras to Galaxy A series in 2022

Samsung’s mid-range smartphones could get a welcome boost in camera performance in 2022. According to a report from Korea, the company apparently plans to roll out optical image stabilization (OIS) on its entire Galaxy A series in the next year.
Per The Elec (h / t Sleepy Kuma) the 2022 successors of the Galaxy A42, Galaxy A32 and Galaxy A22 5G are available for the upgrade in addition to the 48 MP and 64 MP sensors. This would bring their cameras in line with the higher quality Galaxy A52, Galaxy A72, and competitors from other companies like the OnePlus Nord 2.
OIS is a feature that we regularly see on more expensive smartphones that physically protects the sensor from bumps and wobbles when taking pictures. It’s also important for low-light photography, where small movements and long exposures can result in muddy, streaky shots. With OIS, the Galaxy A-Series should have a vastly improved imaging pedigree.

However, when it comes to budget phones, OIS could have its drawbacks. It will likely add some meat to the phones’ prices. However, this should not deter potential buyers or upgraders if the image quality of the series is noticeably improved.
So when could Samsung launch its first 2022 Galaxy A model with OIS? The company usually introduces Galaxy A devices between its flagship launches, but we have a precedent. The company launched the Galaxy A32 in February 2021 and its predecessor a year earlier. However, the A22 debuted a few months later. With the Galaxy A42 debuting in late 2020, its successor probably has the best chance of being the first to hit the market.
