TL; DR

  • The latest Galaxy foldable devices have reportedly exceeded one million units sold in Korea.
  • It is claimed that only the Galaxy Note 10 series and Galaxy S8 series were faster to reach this milestone.

The foldable Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 have reportedly seen a ton of pre-orders in Korea compared to previous foldable products. While pre-orders are one thing, it now seems like Samsung’s new foldables are seeing impressive sales in their home market as well.

Samsung announced today (h / t: Yonhap news) that it has sold over a million Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 foldable devices in Korea to date. What’s impressive is that the Korean brand stated that this was their third fastest line of devices, reaching one million units sold in Korea, with only the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy S8 series ahead of them.

In other words, the latest Galaxy Z foldable devices are enjoying stronger first-time sales in Korea than families of devices such as the Galaxy Note 20 series, Galaxy S20 and S21 series, and Galaxy S10 family. We’ll have to wait a few more months to see if Samsung can maintain this initial sales momentum.

The manufacturer found that the Galaxy Z Flip 3 accounted for 70% of the devices, adding that 54% of purchases were made by Millennials or Generation Z customers. The clamshell-style foldable one is significantly cheaper and smaller than the Galaxy Z Fold 3, which may explain why it makes up the lion’s share.

No information is available on global sales performance yet, so we can’t wait to see if Samsung has managed to replicate this success elsewhere. But this Korean number is a very encouraging sign that Samsung is on the right track. Still, the results are one recent Android authority Surveys suggest that foldable phone brands may need to offer even lower prices to gain real mainstream adoption.
