Samsung One UI 4.0 has a lot of fans, but a lot of critics too

Samsung One UI 4 Beta 2

Luke Pollack / Android Authority

Samsung has released the Beta of One UI 4.0 in the past few days, which gives Galaxy owners a taste of the stable update later this year. The beta, which is now available for owners of the Galaxy S21 series, brings with it some Android 12 features as well as some Samsung-specific optimizations.

Is the One UI 4.0 Beta a step in the right direction for the Korean brand or a dud? We asked you for your opinion on Samsung’s beta software, and that’s how you answered that question.

Samsung One UI 4.0 Beta: Hot or Not?

Results

We posted the poll in our One UI 4.0 beta hands-on over the weekend and votes were quickly gathered. In fact, over 7,600 votes were tallied at the time of writing. And the winner? A good 60% of those surveyed thought the new Samsung software was a hot thing.

The beta received praise from some readers for staying visually consistent when compared to One UI 3.0 and One UI 3.1. Perhaps that is why the majority of voters like what they see.

Meanwhile, just under 40% of the readers surveyed stated that they had been deactivated by the One UI 4.0 beta. It appears that these respondents have issues with overall visual style, as well as issues related to new and existing features.

Comments

  • SyCoREAPER: I may be in the minority, but I’m glad Samsung didn’t pastel the $ hit Android 12 like Google did. If I wanted a Leapfrog computer I would have bought one. While Samsung’s approach may be more appropriate and perhaps underwhelming for some, they have made changes and kept them consistent. More importantly, it’s not so different that it would alienate the less tech-savvy after the upgrade. People will be divided about this and that’s fine. Glad they kept it familiar while others feel that it is too familiar and not different enough.
  • George: What Google did with the so-called “Material You” is an absolute mess. I hope One UI stays the same and Samsung won’t take that approach.
  • Neil: Since this is the beta build, are there any other big changes for future builds? Because I’m a little overwhelmed with what I’ve read here.
  • DBS: It’s the same junk that made me decline the Android 11 / OneUi 3.x update. And it doesn’t seem to fix OR give us the tools back to fix it.
  • Patrick Mac: I agree with how OneUI 3.1 looks, so the lack of a UI update isn’t a big deal, but there are some features that could be added to further improve the user experience and give more control.
  • GG: I have no complaints about how smooth my software runs on s21 ultra, but for me the user interface and task menu should be redesigned, make it unique, make it like no other
