Samsung One UI 3.1.1 spotted in changelog, might not be a big update

TL; DR
- The next One UI update from Samsung could be called One UI 3.1.1.
- The name suggests that it is not a major update.
- There are still no signs of One UI 3.5, but One UI 3.1.1 could debut on Samsung’s upcoming foldable phone.
Samsung phones currently run either One UI 3.0 or One UI 3.1. The first brought Android 11 to Samsung devices, while the second came with small improvements and several new features. Now Samsung seems to be preparing another update for One UI, but it may not be a big one, a new report says XDA developer suggests.
Samsung went from One UI 2.0 to One UI 2.1 and then to One UI 2.5 in the previous version of the skin. All of these leaps represented new features for Galaxy phones. After One UI 3.0 and 3.1, users naturally expected the release of One UI 3.5 with some design tweaks and feature enhancements. However, it looks like Samsung is preparing an incremental update called One UI 3.1.1.
The name of the new One UI update was discovered by a twitter user in the update changelog of Nice Catch, a Good Lock module in the Galaxy Store.
As you can see, the changelog clearly mentions One UI 3.1.1. We don’t know why Samsung is doing another update to One UI 3.1 instead of releasing One UI 3.5, but the same information was previously shared by Leaker Ice Universe, who said a few days ago that Samsung is starting testing One UI 4.0 will begin on flagships of the S-series next month.
The name of the upcoming One UI version suggests that it is not a very important update. It might bring some small changes, but not enough to warrant a move to One UI 3.5. On the other hand, if Ice Universe is to be believed, One UI 3.5 may not exist and Samsung could go straight to One UI 4.0. The leaker expects One UI 3.1.1 to debut on Samsung’s upcoming foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
