TL; DR

  • The Galaxy S22 could account for at least half of the total S22 series production.
  • This would correspond to a higher proportion of basic models produced compared to previous years.

Samsung is slated to announce the Galaxy S22 line of flagship phones in early 2022, and we’ve already seen leaked renders courtesy of frequent speaker Steve Hemmerstoffer. Now, a new report suggests Samsung thinks the standard S22 could be the top seller.

The standard Galaxy S22 is expected to make up at least half of all Galaxy S22 series phones produced. The Elec reported. More specifically, the point of sale says Samsung is hoping the base S22 will make up 50 to 60% of its shipping destination.

It is alleged that the company wants the Galaxy S22 Plus to account for 20% of total mass production, while the company allegedly hopes the Galaxy S22 Ultra will account for 20-30%.

“This is the first time that Samsung has deliberately determined a model in the series so that it accounts for more than half of the production and delivery target.” The Elec wrote.

What is the reason for the increased focus?

It is believed that the base S20 previously accounted for 40% of serial S20 production, the Plus model was set at 40% to 45%, and the Ultra accounted for 10% to 15%. The base S21 apparently made up 40% of the production for the S21 series, while the Plus and Ultra made up 30% each.

The outlet also claimed that Samsung’s production target for the S22 series is at the low of 20 million units. In contrast, the company is said to have aimed for 30 million units of the Galaxy S21 series.

In any case, the obviously increased focus on the base Galaxy S22 suggests that Samsung could be aggressive on the price. The base Galaxy S21 received a $ 200 cut in price versus the Galaxy S20 and cost $ 800. So there is a precedent for a price cut.

That news also comes after a Korean news agency claimed Samsung was considering canceling the Galaxy S21 FE. An even cheaper Galaxy S22 could theoretically be an alternative device if the S21 FE does not come out of the gate.

Do you think Samsung should skip the Galaxy S21 FE in favor of a cheaper Galaxy S22 series phone? Let us know via the poll above.
