  • Samsung fixes the display problems of the Galaxy S20 FE with two firmware updates.
  • Some Galaxy S20 FE users complained of poor touchscreen performance shortly after the phone started.
  • Judging from the update, the problem seems to be more of a software problem than a hardware failure.

After some users raised concerns about the display performance of the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, Samsung is now addressing these issues with some updates.

Shortly after the phone started, some owners experienced several issues with the device’s display sensitivity. These ranged from phantom touch issues and the inability to distinguish typing from gestures and swipes, to completely ignoring input in extreme cases. In particular, our test device did not experience any such issues, but some users on the Reddit and Samsung forums have suffered from the above issues.

According to SamMobile, an update that was introduced to the device last week that specifically addresses these issues. A second update is now available in Europe with the firmware number G78xxXXU1ATJ5. Although the changelog of the new update doesn’t show any specific changes to the touchscreen, SamMobile determines that the verification device is now working as expected after installation.

Despite the problem, the Galaxy S20 FE apparently got off to a good start. On paper, it looked like an attractive option for those who didn’t want to miss out on the more expensive S20 flagships. However, the display gremlins raised concerns that Samsung may have made more tradeoffs than originally thought. Fortunately for buyers, it appears to be more of an easy-to-fix software problem than a hardware defect.
