TL; DR

  • An LTE sporty Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 model has passed the FCC.
  • It supports multiple LTE bands, dual-band WiFi, and more.
  • Battery and charging details are also provided with the listing.

We saw the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 series take a trip around China’s 3C earlier this month. Now the line has arrived at the FCC. On the US certification page, a device with the model number SM-R885 popped up with some fascinating details.

Judging by the model number, the SM-R885 could be the LTE variant of the SM-R880. The latter is said to be the smaller 41mm Galaxy Watch 4. While the FCC list doesn’t go into its size, it does confirm that the smartwatch in question supports multiple LTE bands. In addition, the watch also supports dual-band WiFi, NFC, GNSS and Bluetooth. “Audio playback” from the internal memory of the smartwatch is also listed as a feature.

As for power, the smartwatch packs a battery with the model number EB-BR880ABY. We have seen this cell mentioned in previous listings and it is rated at 240 mAh. This suggests that the battery capacity of the Galaxy Watch 3 and 4 series will not differ.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4: how about charging

For charging, the Galaxy Watch 4 appears to keep support for Qi wireless charging. However, the wearable can share its charger with earlier models. The FCC tested the Galaxy Watch 4 with a charger number EP-OR825 – the wireless charger that supports the Galaxy Watch 3 and Watch Active 2.

While a recent 3C list suggests that the Galaxy Watch 4 may not come with a charger, it is more likely that Samsung will continue to use its current charger. It’s a sensible move for Samsung as it will save the company from developing a new cradle. This should also mean lower prices for consumers.

So when can we expect the Galaxy Watch 4’s official debut? Conflicting rumors suggest a start could come between now and August. However, the FCC list suggests the wearable’s debut is imminent.
