Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus update hub

Update: October 19, 2020 (4:10 p.m. ET): As Samsung confirmed in August, owners of the Galaxy S9 series can look forward to a major update this month. Samsung will introduce One UI 2.5 for the flagship line from 2018.

Per SamMobilethe Galaxy S9 update is only available in Germany. However, expect the update to become more widespread in the next few weeks or so.

A 2.5 user interface brings Wireless Dex, improved video recording modes and keyboard improvements with it.

The Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus launched with Android Oreo before upgrading to Android Pie in early 2019. Like most Android flagships, these are expected to receive two major updates in their life.

On November 20th, the beta version of One UI 2.0 was officially launched for Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus devices in Korea. Before the S9 series, the Android 10-based beta was available on Galaxy S10 and Note 10 devices.

A user interface 2.0 brings the Galaxy S9 series to Android 10, with a number of improvements to Samsung’s skin of the Android operating system. New additions are an extended dark mode, less intrusive notifications and digital wellbeing.

After Korea, Samsung has started rolling out One UI 2.0 Beta for Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus in its second market – India (h / t) SamMobile). Users can sign up for the Android 10 beta through the Samsung Members app.

Since then, new features have been discovered on the phone. The device has now inherited the Galaxy Note 10’s night mode for the front camera and rear telephoto camera, which apparently were also introduced for the Galaxy Note 9 SamMobileWith this feature, users of the Galaxy S9 in the beta version of Android 10 can now take brighter photos in low-light conditions.

The beta update should be available on the US market soon. A roadmap released by Samsung Israel also points to an April release for the Galaxy S9’s stable Android 10 update. While the update schedule may vary in different countries, this could be a good indicator of when to expect Android 10 on the S9 and S9 Plus.

On December 10, Samsung released its second One UI 2.0 beta for the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus in India alongside the December security patch. According to Tizen helpThis update improves stability, fixes bugs and gives the update a bit more spit and shine.

Some key fixes include GPS data leaks, S Health measurement errors, memory leaks, slow hotspot speeds, a security folder bug, and improvements to Bluetooth functionality. The Samsung Internet App and Samsung Dex also received some usability improvements, and both devices should see better thermal management.

On December 27, 2019, Samsung released its fourth One UI 2.0 beta for the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. Tizen help reported that the update simply fixed some bugs and other issues.

The December update was followed by another beta update for One UI 2.0 on January 8th. The update fixed an issue where Galaxy S9 users were being excluded from the Safe Folder on their phones. We also fixed the occurrence of unwanted noise when optimizing the sound quality with 3.5mm and USB-C headphones.

In addition, the update was made with a new version of Digital Wellbeing and improvements to camera performance. Dex has also been added for PC functionality. Finally, it included optimizations for motion detection in the gesture navigation status.

At the end of January and beginning of February, Galaxy S9 owners in Europe and unlocked owners in the USA received the stable update. Meanwhile, Verizon devices received the stable Android 10 update on February 21st, which added unlocked, AT&T, and US Cellular devices.

A few days later, T-Mobile quietly announced that the introduction of Android 10 for the Galaxy S9 series had also started. The update included the February 2020 security patch in tow. Sprint came in the clutch not long after that.

In June, the Galaxy S9 series received the long-awaited update to One UI 2.1. The patch tagged in the June 2020 Android security patch and a host of camera features that were featured on the Galaxy S20 line.
