Samsung Galaxy S30 Plus battery capacity leaked: How big is it? (Update)
- A leak suggests that Samsung could increase the battery capacity of the Galaxy S30 Plus.
- This was confirmed by another leak, which also indicates no change for the S30 standard.
Update, September 7, 2020 (2:10 p.m. ET): Further details on the batteries of the Samsung Galaxy S30 series have now become known via the Chinese 3C certification body.
Two battery models, EB-BG996ABY and EB-BG991ABY, were discovered by MySmartPrice. Based on the model number, EB-BG996ABY probably belongs to the Galaxy S30 Plus and has a nominal capacity of 4,660 mAh. This confirms previous reports and should mean a typical capacity of around 4,800 mAh and a gain of 300 mAh over the battery of the Galaxy S20 Plus.
The other battery in the list probably belongs to the standard Galaxy S30 and has a nominal capacity of 3,880 mAh. This is the same as the nominal capacity of the Galaxy S20, which suggests that Samsung might advertise this as a 4,000 mAh battery.
Judging from this information, which suggests that only the Plus model is getting a buff, it’s likely that the bottom Galaxy S30 isn’t as important to Samsung as its premium models. There’s no word on the Galaxy S30 Ultra’s battery from China’s 3C, but we wouldn’t be surprised if this model saw a capacity improvement despite the S20’s already massive power bank.
Original article, Aug 20, 2020 (7:26 ET): There are still a good six months until Samsung launches its next flagship, but the little things about it have already started to turn the round. A new report from GalaxyClub suggests that Samsung will increase the battery capacity of the Galaxy S30 series.
The people at the release got information about a Samsung battery with the product number EB-BG996ABY, which suggests it belongs to the Galaxy S30 Plus. According to the Samsung numbering convention, the Galaxy S30 phones will likely have model numbers that begin with “G99” as the model number of the Galaxy S20 series begins with “G98”.

Samsung Galaxy S30 Plus battery: is it big enough?
According to the report, the battery of the Galaxy S30 Plus has a nominal capacity of 4,660 mAh. This means that the typical battery capacity should be 4,800 mAh. In contrast, the battery of the Galaxy S20 Plus has a nominal capacity of 4,370 mAh and a typical capacity of 4,500 mAh.
On paper, the Galaxy S30 Plus should contain around 300 mAh more battery compared to the Galaxy S20 Plus.
Larger batteries are of course welcome, especially on phones with high refresh rate displays. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus has a 120 Hz screen and the phone averaged five hours of on-time per day in our tests. We hope the Galaxy S30 Plus will deliver at least a couple of extra hours with that extra juice and that it’s good enough to run for a full day with 120Hz mode on.
Additionally, a larger battery on the Galaxy S30 Plus is also good news for the Galaxy S30 Ultra. The S20 Ultra already offers a 5,000 mAh battery and it would be great if Samsung improved it even further over the next year.
