Samsung Galaxy S30 could launch very, very early
Update, October 16, 2020 (9:45 a.m. ET): Shortly after we posted the following news, some new evidence emerged to support this. The people at SamMobile claim to have an exclusive inside source stating that Samsung could launch the Galaxy S30 series in early January 2021. While this supports the ideas listed in the original article below, it appears to be an even earlier launch window.
Of course, nothing has been confirmed yet, so you should still treat this with some skepticism.
Original article, Oct. 16, 2020 (8:48 a.m. ET): Samsung could launch its new flagship phones in just over three months. A report from the Korean publication The Elec suggests that Samsung pushed the launch of the Galaxy S30 series or whatever Samsung decides to name the new line of products.
The report claims the Galaxy S30 phones will likely go on sale a month earlier than their predecessors. This means that Samsung is expected to launch the new S-series flagships in early February or even late January. Last year, Samsung announced the S20 series on February 11, but the phones didn’t go on sale until March. Similarly, the Galaxy S10 and S9 phones were also released in March.
Citing a source The Elec Samsung’s decision to push ahead with the Galaxy S30 series release is the result of Huawei’s ongoing problems. The company reportedly wants to “take advantage of Huawei’s absence”.
Huawei’s smartphone business is not at its best right now. The recent round of US restrictions impacted Huawei’s ability to obtain chipsets from manufacturers. As a result, the upcoming Mate 40 flagships will be the last to sport a Kirin SoC, and the future of the P50 series, which would ideally have launched in March to compete with the Galaxy S30 series, hangs in the balance.

Meanwhile, Samsung is also said to be preparing a new pair of TWS headphones. They are apparently called Galaxy Buds 2 and will be a sequel to the original Galaxy Buds that launched in 2019. The publication doesn’t know much about the new earbuds other than that they will improve water resistance.
Sources tell The Elec Samsung chose the “Live” and “Plus” monikers for the previous two Galaxy Buds because they couldn’t improve their water resistance. Both the Galaxy Buds Plus and Buds Live have an IPX2 rating, so you can assume that the so-called Galaxy Buds 2 will be upgraded to IP67 / 68.
Elsewhere, the report says that the Galaxy S30 series will include three models that will be available in gray, pink, purple, white and silver. The Galaxy Buds 2 matches some of these colors and is available in black, silver, and purple.
