Samsung Galaxy S22 series could finally bring much faster charging

TL; DR
- Samsung is apparently testing the 65 W charging for the Galaxy S22 series.
- This would be a major upgrade over the S21 family’s 25W store.
- It would also be in line with competing devices like OnePlus and Xiaomi.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 series is not expected until early 2022, but that hasn’t stopped the flow of rumors and obvious leaks that are popping up online. The latest leak suggests that Samsung’s 2022 flagships are getting long overdue fast charging capabilities.
Regular Twitter tipster FrontTron asserts that a 65W charge is tested for all three Galaxy S22 models. The leaker previously claimed that “Rainbow” was the code name of the Galaxy S22 family and that the individual models were called “Red” (Standard S22), “Green” (S22 Plus) and “Blue” (S22 Ultra). Check out the tweet below.
This would be a big step for Samsung as it largely insisted on using 25W wired charging speeds for its flagship phones. We saw 45W charge capacity on the S20 Ultra and Galaxy Note 10 Plus, but the actual charge time didn’t seem too different from using the 25W adapter.
Competing devices like the OnePlus 9 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra offer 65W or faster charging speeds, which means that a full charge takes less than 40 minutes (or 29 minutes in the case of OnePlus). In comparison, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra reaches 100% capacity in just over 70 minutes by charging with 25 W. So there is definitely time to be won here.
However, faster charging tends to degrade battery health faster than slower charging speeds, so this could be an issue for the Korean company if it goes down that route. However, we’ve seen OEMs address this issue with features like smart charging that learns from your usage and only hits 100% when you actually need your device.
Do you think Samsung should increase the charging speeds for the Galaxy S22 series or is 25W charging good enough? Let us know via the poll above.
