TL; DR

  • It is rumored that Samsung is downsizing the screen size of the Galaxy S22.
  • The regular model would be just under 6.1 inches while the S22 Plus and Ultra would sit at 6.55 inches and 6.8 inches, respectively.
  • You would still have to buy the Ultra to get an LTPO panel.

Samsung could have your back if you hate the trend towards bigger and bigger phones. According to Telephone arena, Tipster Mauri QHD claimed that the Galaxy S22 line will shrink in size on most models.

The screen of the basic Galaxy S22 would allegedly drop from 6.2 inches of the S21 to a more manageable 6.06 inches. The S22 Plus, meanwhile, would drop from 6.7 inches to 6.55 inches. Only the Ultra model would stay constant at around 6.8 inches.

However, you still have to settle for a bigger size if you want a Galaxy S22 with an LTPO (low temperature polycrystalline oxide) display. Mauri’s source claims the Ultra is once again the only model with an LTPO screen, which makes it a better choice if you want less battery damage from high refresh rates or display features that are always on.

This would be a slightly unusual move for Samsung, legendary for its size increasing with each generation. For example, the original Galaxy Note was defined by its then huge 5.3-inch screen. However, it’s no secret that phone manufacturers are pushing the boundaries of the human hand. A smaller Galaxy S22 size range could be an affirmation that some phones are just too big and that fans sometimes prefer ergonomics to a huge visual canvas.
