- Samsung Galaxy S21 series sales are reportedly 30% higher than S20 series in Korea.
- The base model accounted for 40% of sales, Samsung said.
The Samsung Galaxy S21 series was launched at a cheaper price than last year. The starting price for the basic Galaxy S21 was $ 800 in the US compared to $ 1000 for the basic Galaxy S20 last year. The Galaxy S21 is cheaper in Korea too, starting at 999,900 won (~ $ 903) compared to the Galaxy S20’s base price of 1.25 million won (~ $ 1,130) at launch. It looks like this strategy could pay off in the company’s home market.
Samsung was quoted by Yonhap news Galaxy S21 series sales are 30% higher than Galaxy S20 series sales. Growth has been calculated based on sales from January 29th (the first day of availability) through February 8th. Presumably, the Korean manufacturer compared this with the first days of availability of the Galaxy S20 range last year.
The base model Galaxy S21 was the most popular model with a sales share of 40%, followed by the Galaxy S21 Ultra with 36%. The S21 Plus accounted for 24% of sales during this time.
It’s also interesting to note that Samsung said that unlocked devices account for 30% of Galaxy S21 series sales in the market, with sales in that category more than doubling Galaxy S20 series sales in this regard.
This isn’t the only good news for Samsung’s new flagships in the past few days, as pre-orders in the UK reportedly surpassed pre-orders for the Galaxy S10 range and S20 range. Between that news and the Korean sales, it suggests that the S21 series could be a huge hit for the company.
