Samsung Galaxy S21 FE could launch as a Note 20 follow-up

Samsung is expected to launch a number of new devices later this year, including the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. However, one device might be of greatest interest to Galaxy Note owners looking to upgrade. Per a tweet from reliable tipster Evan Blass, the alleged Galaxy S21 FE could be positioned as the “successor” of last year’s Galaxy Note 20, not the Galaxy S20 FE.

This makes sense because Note devices usually hit the market in August. However, the FE has become a traditional staple for the Galaxy S line, not the Note series.

While Samsung had launched both Galaxy S and Note flagships in previous years, it confirmed that the latter would not hit the market this year. This has created space for a possible deputy. The likely candidate for this role is now apparently the Galaxy S21 FE.

What does this mean for Note owners?

So if the Galaxy S21 FE is a successor to the Note 20, what does that mean for its features and design? Well, leaked images show the S21 FE as the shadow of the Galaxy S21 series. If Samsung were to position the S21 FE as a Note replacement, we would at least expect stylus support and some visual similarities. There is no evidence that this is the case.

Of course, the Galaxy S21 FE could only play a more prominent role in Samsung’s product range due to the 2021 restrictions. Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy Note will also return in 2022. There’s little chance the Galaxy S FE line will be a long-term replacement for the Note series.

Finally, it is also worth noting that the nickname Galaxy S21 FE has yet to be confirmed. Although the name appeared on an official Samsung website, the company may decide to use a different name before launching. Of course, Samsung first introduced the FE nameplate on a Galaxy Note device.

Still, it will be interesting to see how Samsung could mess around with its products in the second half of the year. Rumor has it that Samsung will hold an introductory event on August 19th, so things should get clearer in the months ahead.
