Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 info leaks (Dec. 23)

Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 leak

Update, December 23, 12:45 p.m. ET): A few days ago we took our first look at the potential Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2. The design of the laptop doesn’t seem to differ much from last year.

However about @ _h0x0d_ We have some information on the specs for the new Chromebook on Twitter. An official-looking picture says the device could see a 13.3-inch QLED display, which would be a first for a Chromebook. The picture also claims the device will be 178% louder, weigh 2.75 lbs, be powered by a 10th generation Intel Core i3 processor, and have a target battery life of over 12 hours.

The image also seems to confirm the design first leaked by Evan Blass, which we will elaborate on in the original article below.

Original article, Dec. 21, 2020 (3:20 p.m. ET): There have been rumors that Samsung is unveiling a sequel to the Galaxy Chromebook, and now there’s a hint of what this Chrome OS machine will mean. Well-known tipster Evan Blass has announced that this is the first leaked image of the Galaxy Chromebook 2 and it seems Samsung was (for the most part) happy with last year’s design.

The 2-in-1 system would share the sleek, box-like design of the original with a few noticeable changes. Samsung would extend the color of the Galaxy Chromebook 2 (including the hot red hue) on the sides, and you’d find “rearranged” ports that still include USB-C, a microSD card slot, and a headphone jack. Not that these are necessarily problems – the first Galaxy Chromebook was a stunner.

Any major changes are likely to be on the inside. If Samsung sticks are equipped with Intel chips, the Galaxy Chromebook 2 could switch to 11th generation core processors. This could lead to significant performance improvements, especially for graphics-intensive tasks. We wouldn’t rely on a MacBook Air-like fanless design as Blass hopes, but we can’t rule it out.

It’s not certain when Samsung could launch the new Chromebook. While an introduction to CES 2021 is the strongest possibility when the first Galaxy Chromebook was unveiled at the 2020 show, we can’t completely rule out a premiere at Samsung’s expected event on January 14th for the Galaxy S21. If this leak is accurate, we wouldn’t expect a long wait for a relatively evolutionary design.
