Samsung Galaxy A71 5G camera profile

  • The Samsung Galaxy A72 is said to have five rear cameras.
  • In addition to a telephoto lens, there is a 64-megapixel sensor.
  • The phone is expected to debut early next year.

We’ve launched many mid-range phones with triple and quad rear cameras this year, but Samsung is apparently going to add even more cameras to the rumored Galaxy A72.

According to a report by The Elec (about SamMobile) the device could have five rear cameras when it debuts early next year.

The phone’s penta camera array may be accompanied by a 64-megapixel primary camera flanked by a 12-megapixel ultra-wide snapper and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x zoom. A pair of 5MP sensors for “bokeh” and macro shots complete the package. For those wondering about selfies, a 32MP shooter should also be included in advance.

It’s a similar lineup used by the Galaxy A71 except for the addition of the telephoto camera. It is unclear whether the bokeh sensor planned for the A72 differs significantly from the depth sensor of the A71 or whether the renaming is a marketing move.

Specifically, the Galaxy A72 wouldn’t be the first phone with five rear cameras, but it would be the first Samsung phone to have that award. We’ve seen this setup have been reserved for more premium phones like Huawei, Nokia, and Xiaomi in the past, but Samsung may want to keep using its Galaxy A-series as a feature testing ground.

The Galaxy A80 sported the company’s first modern folding camera, while the 2018 Galaxy A7 and Galaxy A9 were the first Samsung phones to have triple and quad camera arrays for the brand. Both agreements have become commonplace for Samsung’s budget and flagships as well.

The Samsung Galaxy A72 is expected to debut in the first half of 2021.
