TL; DR

  • Samsung is reportedly preparing a more powerful successor to the popular Galaxy A52 smartphone.
  • The new 5G device is likely called the Galaxy A52S and could get a younger, faster SoC under the hood.
  • It’s expected to hit the market at roughly the same price as its sibling by the end of this month.

Samsung launched the Galaxy A52 5G in March. The mid-range smartphone offers an attractive 120 Hz display, excellent battery life, IP ratings and a powerful main camera for a price of 500 US dollars. However, one of the biggest concerns we had with it (see our review) was the average performance. It looks like Samsung is correcting this with a successor called the Galaxy A52S.

Equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G, the performance of the Galaxy A52 lagged far behind other phones in its price range. The A13 Bionic in the iPhone SE easily outperformed the Qualcomm SoC in our tests. We found the phone to be fine for everyday use but not reliable for heavy lifting.

A new leak now shows that Samsung’s Galaxy A52S will be equipped with the younger, beefier Snapdragon 778G chip. The CPU can also be found in recently launched phones like the Motorola Edge 20 and Honor 50 Pro. It promises a performance increase of over 40% compared to the Snapdragon 768G, which powered several upper mid-range devices last year. Than the leak out WinFuture Notes, you can assume that the alleged Galaxy A52S is 35% faster compared to its sibling.

Samsung’s new A-series is expected to hit the European market with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Other regions will get an 8GB + 256GB model, the leak claims.

Nothing changes in the other specifications of the phone. So you get the same 6.5-inch Super AMOLED panel with an in-display fingerprint sensor, 4,500 mAh battery, 64 MP quad camera setup, and an IP67 rating. The Galaxy A52S’s design is also likely to stay the same as leaked renders.

The phone is expected to hit the market later this month and cost € 449.
