Samsung could supply Exynos chipsets to Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo

  • Samsung reportedly plans to supply Exynos processors to Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi.
  • The processors are believed to be used in the brands’ budget phones in the first half of 2021.

Samsung is no stranger to offering its processors to other Android phone manufacturers. Vivo recently used Samsung Exynos 980 and Exynos 880 chipsets in some of its phones. Now it looks like the Korean company has two other large Chinese manufacturers as partners.

Business korea Reports (h / t: Gizmochina) that Samsung plans to re-ship its Exynos processors to Oppo and Xiaomi in 2021 in addition to Vivo. According to the point of sale, these processors will be deployed in some affordable corporate phones in the first half of the year.

The publication reports that due to low profit margins, Samsung LSI has started to cut back on the supply of Exynos chipsets to Samsung’s wireless division (allegedly the smartphone unit) and has sought new customers.

Business korea Xiaomi and Oppo were looking for Exynos chipsets as they need more processors to expand production in the face of Huawei’s problems. It is also believed that the Exynos processors were offered at competitive prices to manufacturers.

However, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of brands trying to exploit Huawei’s troubles in the US. Recent reports suggest that Samsung plans to launch the Galaxy S30 series earlier than usual in response to the Chinese brand’s situation.

In any case, we already know that Samsung plans to announce its Exynos 1080 processor in China on November 12th, presumably as the successor to the Exynos 980. The company previously confirmed this Android Authority that the new chipset contains the latest Cortex-A78-CPU and Mali-G78-GPU.
