Royale will unveil its FlexPai 2 foldable smartphone on September 21
- Royole is hosting an event on September 21st that will showcase the FlexPai 2.
- The new foldable phone should have an improved screen, faster performance, and more cameras.
- It’s not sure how widespread the FlexPai 2 will be.
You shouldn’t have to wait long for more details on Royole’s sequel to its FlexPai foldable phone. Royole announced (via Ross Young and Gizmochina) a “New Product Launch” on September 21 at 10:30 pm Eastern (10:30 am Beijing time) to officially launch FlexPai 2. The event will be streamed live on Royole’s website and YouTube.
The company doesn’t provide much guidance on what to expect, though the pictures from the invitation leave little doubt that a foldable device is coming.
Royole has already confirmed that the FlexPai 2 will revolve around an improved display. The foldable phone will have a much brighter, more color accurate screen (supposedly 7.8 inches) that isn’t as prone to wrinkles. That should be a much stronger hinge too.
You can also expect the phone to catch up in performance. Royole has already promised a Snapdragon 865 chip, dual-mode 5G, 12 GB of RAM and a 4,050 mAh battery. An August leak also suggested it would join the line of phones with four cameras, including a 64-megapixel main sensor, 16-megapixel and 8-megapixel shooters, and a 32-megapixel sensor for Front shots.

Royale hasn’t given any indication of price or availability, although other tablet-like foldable phones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 and the Huawei Mate XS are expected to be undercut.
The FlexPai 2 should be a welcome improvement over Royole’s rough original model. Whether or not it is a convincing device is another question. The first FlexPai was groundbreaking, but its competitors are now using second-generation hardware. Royole’s new foldable phone is set to face much tougher competition, and there’s no guarantee it will have deals from well-heeled companies like Huawei and Samsung.
