Riot confirms a Valorant mobile game is in the works
Riot Games’ tactical team shooter Valorant debuted on PC a little over a year ago, drawing players from FPS and team-based games. Now the developer has announced that it will bring the title to mobile phones.
In an announcement to mark the game’s first anniversary, Riot confirmed that a mobile version of the free-to-play shooter, Valorant Mobile, was being worked on.
The developer did not reveal too many details about the mobile version. However, the title suggests that it looks more like its PC sibling than a full spin-off. Valorants executive producer Anna Donlon told the story Polygon that the mobile version would focus on the needs of the mobile gamer. It won’t just be a copy and paste version of the PC title. Donlon also confirmed that PC-cellphone cross-play would not be available. Because the gaming experiences on the platforms differ, Riot intends to keep the two titles separate.
Riot is the latest big game developer bringing a flagship shooter to mobile. EA-owned Respawn announced plans to launch an Apex Legends mobile game that will follow in the footsteps of Fortnite, Call of Duty and PUBG.
While Riot didn’t provide an official schedule for the game’s release, Donlan did share it Polygon that it can possibly be played in “year two”.
