- A cargo airline in Hong Kong reportedly banned Vivo phones after a cargo fire.
- Freight pallets with Vivo Y20 phones were destroyed in the fire.
A Hong Kong-based cargo airline reportedly announced a ban on Vivo phones following a serious cargo fire at Hong Kong Airport over the weekend.
The cargo fire occurred on the apron of the airport just before the pallets with Vivo Y20 phones and related accessories were about to be loaded onto a Hong Kong Air Cargo plane to Thailand. The standard reported (h / t: 91mobile).

Videos of the incident posted online show the fire itself, from one pallet to two more. Photos also show numerous damaged Vivo-branded boxes and phones in the sequence, as shown below.
Several industries have since reported that Hong Kong Air Cargo banned Vivo devices and two air cargo companies until further notice. The cause of the fire is not yet known, but lithium-ion batteries used in smartphones can cause fires if defective or damaged. We saw this back in 2016 with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
We asked Vivo for a comment on the incident and reported ban and will update the article if you get back to us. For what it’s worth, the company also makes phones in India, so this incident and the apparent ban are unlikely to affect the delivery of its devices in India.
