Redmi K50 series could offer next-generation Snapdragon power
TL; DR
- A Weibo leaker has claimed that the Redmi K50 series will offer the Snapdragon 895 chipset.
- The new phones will apparently also offer 67W charges and center-mounted punch-hole cutouts.
Redmi CEO Lu Weibing waved his tongue last month after asking social media users what they would like from “future K50 products”. A prominent leaker then handed out a few alleged upgrades.
Now, Weibo-Leaker Bald Panda has claimed that the Redmi K50 series will feature a Snapdragon 895 processor, 67W wired charging, and a center hole cutout. You can view a screenshot of the machine-translated post below.
The apparent presence of the Snapdragon 895 SoC suggests that the Redmi K50 series won’t hit the market until December 2021 or January 2022. After all, Qualcomm announces its next-generation flagship chipset in early December every year. In any case, we expect the new SoC from Qualcomm to feature brand new Cortex-X2, Cortex-A710 and Cortex-A510 CPU cores.
Otherwise, wired charging at 67W would be a welcome improvement over the K40 range’s 33W charging. The Mi 11 Ultra offers a 67 W charge that can charge the 5,000 mAh battery in 37 minutes. So we would expect similar results from the K50 series if it also has a ~ 5,000 mAh battery.
Machine translation suggests the K50 family will also get an upgraded main camera, but we’re not sure what that entails. We have 48 MP, 64 MP and 108 MP main sensors for the K40, K40 Pro and K40 Pro Plus. But hopefully we’ll see cameras like the 50MP Samsung GN1 and GN2 sensors that deliver larger pixels and sensor sizes.
