Redmi K40 coming next month, starting at under $500
- Redmi has confirmed that the Redmi K40 is coming.
- It was also suggested that the new phone will have a starting price of 2,999 yuan.
The Redmi K series is the flagship of the Xiaomi sub-brand, starting with the Redmi K20 Pro in 2019 and ending with the Redmi K30 Pro in 2020. Now the sub-brand has confirmed that the Redmi K40 is actually coming.
Redmi and General Manager Lu Weibing confirmed on Weibo that the Redmi K40 is coming next month, but it has also been announced that prices will start at 2,999 yuan (~ $ 463). Check out a screenshot of the post below.
The price tag means it’s the same as last year’s Chinese price of the Redmi K30 Pro, and it’s cheaper than the 3,999 yuan (~ $ 617) Wed 11. The price of the K40 is obviously for the Chinese market, so we’d give a solid price hike expect when it comes to global markets.
Other Redmi K40 details revealed by Weibing are a battery size of more than 4,000 mAh and the Snapdragon 888 processor. In other words, it certainly sounds like the upcoming phone will be a full-fledged flagship in terms of performance.
According to machine translation, Redmi also claims that the new phone could be the “most expensive straight-screen device”. This means likely the most expensive flat panel phone as opposed to a curved screen device. It seems like an odd thing to boast about, but Redmi is reportedly trying to drive home the fact that flat screens can be premium too.
