Redmi could launch a cheap 108MP phone later this month
- Another leak has confirmed the apparent existence of a Redmi phone with a 108 megapixel camera.
- This could be the cheapest 108MP phone on the market.
In the past 12 months, a few brands have launched 108MP smartphones, including the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. All of these phones had introductory prices in excess of $ 500, which extended to well over $ 1,000 for the latter phone.
Now the common Digital Chat Station on Weibo has determined that the first 108MP Redmi phone is in the works and will be available soon. The leaker adds that it is part of three new Redmi Note 9 series devices expected in mid-November rather than a Redmi Note 10 series phone. Check out a machine-translated version of the post below.
In particular, the tipster claims that the 108MP Redmi phone will include a Samsung Isocell HM2 sensor. This is the company’s new 108MP sensor with 0.7 micron pixels and a 1 / 1.52 inch sensor size – slightly smaller in both categories than the company’s previous 108MP sensors. The HM2 also features non-binning technology, which combines data from nine neighboring pixels into one for brighter, cleaner results at 12MP.
However, this is not the first time the Digital Chat Station has been developed on a 108MP Xiaomi device as it was discovered last month that a device named “J17” had both a 108MP camera and a telephoto macro camera may have. The “J17” is equipped with a Xiaomi device with the model number M2007J17C / M2007J17G before discovered on certification websites and could offer 33W charging.
Still, it would be interesting if Xiaomi skipped the Redmi Note 10 name for these upcoming phones, as the brand typically launches a Redmi Note family in the first half of the year and provides a follow-up in the second half. We saw this already in 2019 (Note 7 and Note 8) and 2018 (Note 5 and Note 6 Pro).
The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max is currently the top-end device in the Redmi Note 9 family and costs from ~ $ 222 in India. So if the new phone has similar prices, we might be looking at the cheapest 108MP phone by far. Hopefully the phone has enough power to do fast camera processing at 108MP.
