- Realme has confirmed that its Realme 8 Pro will feature a 108MP camera.
- A starry time-lapse video mode has also been revealed, dubbed a world first for phones.
Realme hosted a camera innovation event on YouTube today, and the Realme 8 series was not announced at the event. Instead, the company confirmed that the Realme 8 Pro will offer a 108MP main camera.
The company announced that the Realme 8 Pro will include a Samsung Isocell HM2 108MP sensor with non-binning (nine-in-one pixel binning). This sensor is 1 / 1.52 inch in size and has 0.7 micron pixels, with non-binning resulting in photos comparable to images taken with a 12MP 2.1 micron camera were. Realme also gave us a quick look at the Pro model during the event. Check out the screenshot below and a clearer picture above.

Realme also revealed several camera upgrades for the series, such as tilt-shift video recording, a second generation star mode, and a star time lapse video. The latter, however, piques our interest as the OEM claims this is a world first for a smartphone.
The starry 30 frames per second time-lapse mode requires 15 exposures of 16 seconds to produce one frame of a time-lapse video. Realme says that if you want a second of video, you need to keep shooting for eight minutes. So be prepared to shoot a lot longer if you want a time-lapse that lasts a few seconds. Check out examples for the following mode.
There’s no word on when the Realme 8 series will actually hit the market, but it’s clear that 108-megapixel cameras will be a mid-range topic. In addition to the Realme 8 Pro, Redmi has also confirmed that it will offer a Redmi Note 10 series phone with a 108MP sensor.
