Rare ‘ring of fire’ solar eclipse: Dazzling pictures from around the world
The first of two Solar eclipses for 2020 the sun on Sunday turned into a glowing “ring of fire”. People who were along a narrow band of the world in parts of Africa and Asia were the few lucky ones to see the rare “ring-shaped” eclipse firsthand.
An annular solar eclipse occurs when the moon is too far from Earth to completely hide the sun, leaving a ring of sunlight around the moon. This is how these types of eclipses get their poetic nickname “Ring of Fire”.
The complete annular solar eclipse was visible throughout parts of Africa, the Middle East and Asia throughout Sunday. Northern India experienced an almost complete solar eclipse, with 99.4% of the sun blocked during the summit.
