Quibi posts 3 shows free on YouTube right before 90-day trial offer ends
Quibi, a new star-studded mobile streaming service for short videos, has released the first episodes of three series for the first time outside of its app and published them on YouTube for everyone to see. (See links below for viewing.) By publishing them for free to view anywhere, Quibi endeavors to spark interest in its service on the last day that users can sign up for a free 90-day trial. From Friday, everyone who signs up for Quibi will receive two weeks free of charge instead.
Quibi posted the almost eight-minute pilot episode for on YouTube The most dangerous game, a thriller based on the classic short story Quibi called the most watched series last week. The nine-minute pilot was also released The unknown, a thriller about a sociopathic passenger and the nine-minute pilot for Dummy, an unconventional mate comedy that brings a television writer together with her boyfriend’s sex doll.
Since Quibi is a service aimed at mobile devices, all series are recorded and processed for display in landscape and portrait format. You can watch the most dangerous game in both on YouTube horizontal or verticalWith these links, however, you cannot switch dynamically between the two orientations as in the Quibi app. The first episode of The Stranger is available at the following links in horizontal and verticaland you can see dummy in horizontal and vertical Modes on these links.
By posting the full episodes on YouTube, Quibi also offers viewers the first opportunity to see what it’s like to watch their big budget programs on TV. YouTube offers apps that can be viewed on TV on a variety of devices. Quibi’s bet on mobile video meant it started without support for streaming to bigger screens like TVs, but almost immediately some users complained that they couldn’t see on the biggest screen in the house. (Last week Quibi said that some users will be able to broadcast the service from their cell phones to their TVs starting in May.)
Encouraging people to sign up on the last day of an extended trial seems to be a strategy of losing money. However, other streaming services keep reporting that the longer they use a subscription service, the lower the likelihood that a person will cancel a subscription service. Thursday’s free episodes are a step to get more people to download and sign up while they can still qualify for an action that will make them members who stick to the service over the long term.

However, the promotion also occurs one day after a report questions Quibi’s privacy. A researcher reported on Wednesday that Quibi was part of a group of digital companies that email addresses were not properly shared with third-party advertising and tracking companies. Quibi and others shared the email address with companies like Google, Twitter, Snapchat and Facebook. Quibi said it fixed the problem immediately after being informed of the problem, adding that “privacy is essential to Quibi and security of user information is a top priority.”
Quibi is an unconventional streaming video service that’s starting up amidst a wave of streaming services as both technology and media giants shape the future of video. In contrast to the industry leader Netflix, Disney Plus or HBO Max, Quibi’s program is released in episodes of 10 minutes or less that you can only watch Phones or mobile devices.
Quibi costs $ 5 a month with ads and $ 8 a month without ads. Last week, the company announced that Quibi’s app has been downloaded 2.7 million times since its launch on April 6.
