PS5 vs PS5 Digital Edition – Weigh the Pros and Cons
By now you’ve probably heard of the next-generation PS5 series of PlayStation. We learned that this generation of PlayStation players will get an option between a traditional disc version and a fully digital version. If you’re wondering what the highlights of the PS5 vs PS5 Digital Edition debate are and which one suits your play style, you’ve come to the right place.
What are the main differences between the Standard PS5 and PS5 Digital Editions?
The technical data for the Standard PS5 and the PS5 Digital Edition are identical. Whichever console version you choose, you get the same fast SSD, the same graphics quality and much more. There are roughly three main differences between the two consoles.
CD drive
The first and most important difference between the Standard PS5 and PS5 Digital Editions is that the former comes with a drive and the latter doesn’t.
The digital version of the PS5 is 100% digital, which means it is not at all compatible with games contained on a disc. To play games on the PS5 Digital Edition, you must download the games online and save them directly to your console.

design
The design of the two consoles is of course different due to the drive or the lack of it.
The disc version of the PS5 has a slight bulge at the bottom, where the hardware for the disc drive is located. Since the digital version lacks a drive, the design is much slimmer and more symmetrical.
price
The standard price for PS5 is $ 499, while the digital version is only $ 399. The specifications between the two versions are the same. Since the digital version only lacks the hardware components in the disc version, it should cost less to manufacture and therefore cost less for consumers.

Which PS5 console should I buy?
Regardless of how much you look at the debate between the Standard PS5 and the PS5 Digital Edition, both options are fantastic and will be available on November 12th. Take a look at why each console would be a great option, and then from there decide which one works best for you:
Should I buy the standard PS5?
If you enjoy collecting CD copies of your favorite games, you probably want the standard PS5. Not to mention, if you’ve mostly bought disc versions of PS4 games and you don’t plan on keeping your PS4 console, you’ll need the disc version of the PS5. Otherwise, you will lose all of the money you spent on these games as the discs are not compatible with the PS5 Digital Edition.
If you also want to watch Ultra HD Blu-ray Discs without having to buy a separate Blu-ray Disc player, the disc version of the PS5 is for you. I have a huge collection of Blu-rays and DVDs; Because of this, and my obsession with getting physical copies of games, I’m going to buy the disc version of the PS5.
If you don’t have the best internet connection, you can get the standard PS5 as well. Beefy games downloading can be awfully long when you have a bad connection.
The standard PS5 will most likely cost a bit more, but if you’re like me and aren’t ready to get rid of your physical collections, the extra money is well worth it.
Should I buy the PS5 Digital Edition?
You should probably buy the PS5 Digital Edition knowing that you will only be buying digital copies of games. It’ll likely be the cheaper of the two consoles around $ 50 to $ 100. So if all you want to do is buy digital copies of your games, why not choose the cheaper option?
If you own a PS4 and have purchased digital copies of games on this console, Sony has confirmed that you can transfer those digital copies to the PS5 Digital Edition.
Depending on how much you’re playing or how many games you’re downloading, this 825GB SSD can fill up in no time. You need to add an additional SSD that has been certified by Sony. I’m not sure what the prices would be for this, but the additional storage could bring the total price of this console to or above the standard version. That’s of course if you end up needing additional storage.
If you have great internet speed and only buy digital games, the PS5 Digital Edition is a great option for you. You also have the benefit of a more symmetrical and appealing design.
