TL; DR
- A new foldable prototype from Samsung will be exhibited at IMID 2021.
- The device folds up twice, unlike foldable devices we’ve seen before which only fold once.
- It would probably be years before we saw this as a truly salable product.
We are now officially on our third generation of foldable phones from Samsung. However, everything we’ve seen of the company (and its competitors) so far has only been twisted once. Why not have two wrinkles?
Samsung seems to have that in the works (h / t SlashGear). A new foldable prototype from Samsung is currently on display at IMID 2021 (the International Information Displays Meeting). You can see the device above or watch the YouTube video below:
Unfortunately, the video does not show the actual folding of the device. However, it is clear that it is based on the design of existing Galaxy Z Fold devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 3, so your imagination can run free.
Samsung calls this foldable technology “multi-foldable” and calls this special product Samsung Flex In & Out. Obviously, that wouldn’t be the market name if it ever hits the market.
Speaking of which, if you get such a foldable Samsung phone anytime soon, don’t hold your breath. It will likely take years for this to hit stores – if at all.
